Ears, like eyes, are one of our organs open to the outside world. It does not have a protective shield against external dangers such as eyelids. Foreign body infiltration in the ear is more common in children. This may be intentional, as a result of an accident, as an undesirable product of an intervention, or in the form of insects entering, especially at night.

First aid:
- If the organic or inorganic foreign matter is visible, accessible and can be removed as a whole, it is removed with the help of tweezers.
- If the foreign matter is not in a removable position, it is tilted with the ear part down, it is tried to be removed with the help of gravity, the head is slightly shaken, not hit.
- Do not try to remove invisible foreign objects with cotton swab, matchstick, etc. It will both damage your ear and push the foreign object further.
- Piercing tools are not inserted into the ear, they may cause bleeding, perforation of the eardrum, and infection.
- If there is an insect in the ear, contact the nearest health institution.
- If it will take a long time to apply to the health institution, turn the head with the ear that escapes the insect upwards, you can force the insect to come out by pouring warm olive oil, vaseline, baby oil that is not hot or cold. Gently pulling on the earlobe facilitates the insect’s exit. However, this method should be applied by trained people. Not applicable for objects other than insects. If done unconsciously, it can cause more damage to the ear. Especially plant seeds swell with liquid, so liquid is not dripped.
- If the foreign body is not found despite all these, consult a health institution.
- Even if the foreign body has come out as a result of your own careful efforts at home, it will be useful to apply to a health institution in terms of controlling possible damage to the ear.
