Ear itching is a common ailment. Sometimes in people who clean their ears regularly, ear itch can be caused by mechanical irritation. Ear itching is usually not due to a disease. Irritation caused by the secretion of the external auditory canal often causes itching.
Ear itching can also be seen in diseases such as any external ear canal disease, ear discharge, diabetes, hepatitis or lymphoma.
In patients with only external ear canal itching, no cause may be found. However, many reasons such as ear fungus, contact dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, starting from external ear canal cancers, can cause itching in the ear. Most allergic contact dermatitis causes external ear canal itching. Severe ear itching can be seen in eczema of the external ear canal.
Chronic ear itching may occur in fungal infections that are common in the external ear canal.
If you experience persistent itching in your ear, consult your doctor. Do not try to clean your ear with any foreign object. Try not to get water in your ears.
